Building a Gallery Wall You Won't Redo in a Year

A gallery wall that lasts isn't the one with the most pieces on day one — it's the one built with room to keep adding without needing to start over.
Lay it out on the floor first, always
Arrange every piece on the floor in the shape you're planning before a single hole goes in the wall (or a single strip gets stuck down). It's the only way to catch spacing problems before they're permanent.
Leave one gap for something you haven't found yet
Plan the layout with one deliberate empty space. It keeps the wall from feeling static and gives you a reason to keep an eye out instead of considering the project finished the day it goes up.
Mix a mirror or object in with the flat art
A small mirror or a shallow shelf breaks up a wall of flat frames and adds the dimension that keeps a gallery wall from reading as a grid.
